GENERALLY ABOUT THE DISEASE..

"GIST" (gastrointestinal stromal tumor) is a kind of a malignant tumor - a neoplasm of digestive system. In Poland there are apoproximately 60 patients with inoperable/metastatic, 41 people are being followed-up. Annually the number people suffering from GIST is increasing at 120 - 160 cases. In the world there are estimated 16 - 20 sick people annually in 1 million inhabitants and 20 - 30 % of them may need GLIVEC treatment.. What is written about GIST in The USA statistics are sad. However, there are also positive points:

  • There is an effective treatment giving 80 % of positive therapeutic response - GLIVIC,
  • Realisation in Poland of the most modern and the only effective program with Glivec in which the leader is The M. Skłodowska Curie Cancer and Institute of Oncology Warsaw; the main specialist and pioneer in Poland is doc. doc hab. Włodzimierz Ruka.

HELP YOURSELF AND THE OTHERS

The objective of our association, this website www and the people involved in fight against the disease is to attract the attention to the facts which interfere with rescuing people health and life. The suffers of GIST hope to get effective and relatively not troublesome treatment - there is a potent cure, there are outstanding specialists (doc. Ruka) having clinical experience and there is also a medical care. The only problem is the price of the drug. Minimal cost of treatment without operating is 51.240,00 PLN (6 months)! The maximum cost (24 - month therapy) is 204.960,00 PLN. Nobody can afford to purchase the cost at the price from 50.000,00 to 200.000,00 PLN. Both GIST and GLIVEC are new phenomena and that is where the sums of the cure comes from. This website would not probably exist if it was not for those people.

...WHO INTERFERE

To tell the truth they are the bureaucrats spending their free time in yachts, driving limousines and sitting in leather armchairs and to whom coffee is served by secretaries as fit as fleas. These people decide about the health trust finances. With one signature they decide who will be sentenced to die, who will get a chance to survive?

DID THEY SENTENCE ME TO DIE?

Not only me. Only two out of 17 health trusts give refunds for treatment expenses. Those who refuse to cover the expense - sentence the sick to die. I got such a sentence, signed by The Deputy Director of Medical Affairs of Westpomeranian (Zachodniopomorski) Health Trust, Mirosław Blachowski. What is supposed to do a person suffering from flu, who is unemployed and did not get a refund for their treatment? He will buy a cure with his own money or money borrowed from somebody else and will recover. What is a clerk or teacher supposed to do when suffering from GIST? Their 10-year earnings would cover the expenses of a 2-year long therapy. That is simple: THEY MUST DIE. The answer by Mr Blachowski draws attention to two important problems:

  • The aversion of Health Trusts to finance medical programmes by which progress in medicine is inhibited.
  • Breaking the constitution, patient rights, human rights, decline in medical ethics. The expression "above -standard" treatment sounds humiliating itself.

SOMETHING ABOUT ETHICS, LIFE AND DEATH

Those interested in GIST problem (and other kinds of tumours) are the people being close to death - fighting within their own body or trying to get rid of the disease from their patients' organisms. Only they can evaluate the whole despair, uncertainty and… hope accompanying this process and sometimes - diabolical round of emotions - from recognition to recovery or failure to recover. Only those understand what Hippocratic oath means, what "primum non nocere" words mean, what patient and human rights mean, what constitution means. When someone refuses to help somebody else in danger, i.e. a fatally ill person or a person being beaten by hooligans - they may be sentenced by court for not applying aid. What punishment threatens the bureaucrats who sentenced me and other 120 - 160 people to die every year?

Disease - this or another may affect anyone, always and everywhere. Some of them give up. I The others and I fight to the end - not only for ourselves. We invite to our side doctors, patients, lawyers and all the people interested in the fight with diseases that affect our health care system, red tape, selfishness, incompetence, indifference procrastination and corruption.

WE MUST REMOVE NOT ONLY TUMOURS BUT ALSO PEOPLE WHO DIVIDE THE SICK INTO STANDARD AND ABOVE - STANDARD!!!
